Eleven members of mafia family gets death sentence in China
Many members of the Ming family received long prison sentences after dozens of them were convicted of criminal activity.
The Ming family was employed by one of the four main tribes that controlled Laukkaing, a previously quiet town in Myanmar near the Chinese border, transforming it into a major center for gambling, drugs, and scam operations.
In 2023, Myanmar finally cracked down on these families, detaining many members of the family and turning them in to China.
On Monday, a Chinese state broadcaster reported that 39 Ming family members were sentenced in Wenzhou, which is an eastern city.
In addition to the 11 people who were sentenced to death, five others received death sentences, but with a two-year suspension; 11 were given life imprisonment; and the rest faced jail time varying from 5 to 24 years.
